Q: What is the difference between SAE1012 and SAE1018? Which one should I choose?
A:SAE1012 has a carbon content of 0.10–0.15%, making it softer and more ductile. SAE1018 has a carbon content of 0.15–0.20% and a higher manganese content, which increases strength by 20–30% while maintaining good formability.
For applications requiring deep drawing, complex bending, or maximum cold working, choose SAE1012. For structural components, machined parts, or applications requiring higher strength, choose SAE1018. Both steels offer excellent weldability.
