Thin plates are typically cold-rolled or undergo simple hot rolling, featuring high dimensional accuracy and smooth surfaces. Free of scale, they can be used directly without coating. With moderate strength, they are weldable but require attention to thermal deformation.
Medium-to-thick plates are primarily hot-rolled. Due to increased thickness, they exhibit higher strength and toughness, resulting in superior impact resistance and excellent weldability, making them suitable for high-energy welding. However, their dimensional accuracy is generally lower due to greater plate thickness. Surface treatments such as corrosion protection are required for hot-rolled plates.
